In central Florida, United States, local health authorities have issued a red alert to the city’s residents – about armadillos. What people didn’t know is that armadillos are actually, potential bacterial carriers linked to a deadly disease.
With their leather-like surface, armadillos are naturally infected with leprosy, commonly known as Hansen’s disease. They are the only animal species that is responsible for the rising medical cases linked to leprosy – this deadly disease, on an infected human, causes severe skin and nerve damage.
