Police Were Shocked When They Found Out A Celeb Had Vandalized The George Floyd Statue

If you don’t recognize the name Micah Beals, you’re not alone. That’s because Beals is an actor who goes by his stage name Micah Femia. Femia has appeared on notable television shows, including “CSI: NY” and “Parks and Recreation.” However, Femia’s acting career might be over now that he has been arrested by the NYPD’s Hate Crime unit on criminal mischief charges for vandalizing a statue of the late George Floyd at Manhattan’s Union Square Park.

Femia was filmed splashing paint onto the memorial to Floyd on October 3, 2021. The NYPD’s Hate Crime unit confirmed that they arrested the 37-year-old actor on Monday via Twitter. He was caught red-handed vandalizing the statue of Floyd by splashing the statue’s face and base with paint to sully the image and spread hate. Video footage from the scene of the crime shows Micah Beals (Femia) fleeing the scene via a skateboard after splashing paint over the memorial statue.

Beals has failed to comment on the incident.

Beals was charged with criminal mischief in addition to hate crime charges for his actions against Floyd’s memorial. The NYPD is still looking into whether Beals will face additional hate crime charges after he vandalized the statue with hateful coverings.

Micah Femia is best known for his role as Sid on the television show “Parks and Recreation,” where he played a newly single man who dated Ann Perkins, portrayed by Rashida Jones from 2009 to 2015. The actor has also appeared in numerous other TV shows, including “In Treatment,” “CSI: NY,” and “Law & Order.” His first TV appearance was on “CSI: NY” in 2004. His time on “Parks and Recreation” was a big success for the small-time actor, who also appeared in the 2013 film “Pop Star.”

Femia was released on bail after being charged with criminal mischief in the fourth degree. His court date is set for November 16th at East New York Criminal Court, where he will be arraigned by a judge before entering his plea to charges that could send him to jail for up to one year.

Beals was caught by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Unit on Monday after vandalizing a memorial statue of George Floyd at Manhattan’s Union Square Park with spray paint and other defacing materials including black, blue, and silver markers as well as red paint that appears to have been poured onto the statue.

George Floyd was murdered by a Minneapolis police officer while he was in custody. Derek Chauvin, the convicted killer – and former cop for Minneapolis – was filmed choking Floyd to death by kneeling on his throat for nine minutes. Three other officers at the scene did nothing to stop Chauvin from killing the unarmed man. Floyd’s murder set off protests across the country as the video footage emerged online showing how Floyd was brutally killed for no reason except the color of his skin.

Chauvin, now a convicted murderer, was sentenced to twenty-two-and-a-half years behind bars for what he did in May 2020.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul called Beals’s suspected crime “an act of cowardice and hate.”
