The world is full with magnificent animals who all deserve our respect and love.
It is a beautiful sight to see when a person goes above and beyond to help animals in distress.
Meet Patrick Kilonzo Mwalua from Kenya, Patrick is a real life hero for many animals in his country. Hundreds of animals owe their lives to him for the one amazing job he does on a daily basis.
In Tsavo West National Park in Kenya, the animals face the harsh elements especially when prolonged droughts are affecting the park.
Since June of last year the park has not had any rain, Patrick tells us: ”If we don’t help them they will die”. And Patrick is one man who is not going to let that happen!
Every day he sets out with 3,000 gallons of fresh water, driving for hours to reach certain areas of the park.
Due to the prolonged drought, there is no water anywhere in the park area for the animlas to drink. The animals are now solely dependent on the kindness shown by volunteers like Patrick.
And the animals have become acquainted with Patrick’s compassionate act of kindness.
The moment they hear the sound of his truck they immediately begin to gather and flank Patrick’s sides as he disperses the water from the truck.
“Last night,” Patrick says, “I found 500 buffalo waiting at the water hole. When I arrived, they could smell the water. The buffalo were so keen and coming close to us. They started drinking while I was standing there. They get so excited.”
Patrick started his project about a year ago. Starting out he was renting the truck and driving to random locations in the park.
His project has since flourished with several trucks now in use to take water to animals throughout the park.
Patrick’s compassion and love for animals is beautiful to see and his work is evermore so, the animals depend solely on him to survive the harsh drought. Without Patrick’s help they would undoubtedly perish.
