Rihanna is among several high profile women demanding justice for a woman who has spent the last 13 years in jail for killing the man who held her captive as a sex slave when she was 16-years-old.
Cyntonia Brown was a victim of sex-trafficking by a man who sexually abused her and then sold her to a man named Johnny Allen from Nashville. This was all heard in her trial in 2004.
Brown said that she was scared that the former Sharp Shooter for the United States Army would kill her so she took one of his guns and shot him. When the court case was on she was sentenced to life in prison after she was found guilty of prostitution and first degree murder.
Dan Birman who has been documenting her case for several years recently shared his video and it was featured on Fox 17. Brown explains about the physical and mental abuse she suffered. She claimed that herself and her mother and grandmother were all victims of rape.
Birman’s documentary helped to change Tennessee law in 2011 to prevent anyone under the age of 19 from being charged with prostitution. If Brown’s case was heard today, Birman explained, she would be treated as a child human trafficking victim.
Rihanna happened to capture the story and she wrote this on her Instagram:
” horribly wrong when the system enables these rapists and the victim is thrown away for life ”
Other celebrities also her their say with Care Delevingne saying: “The justice system is so backwards! This is completely insane #freecntoiabrown.”
Kim K also went on to say: The system has failed. It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life! We have to do better & what’s right. I’ve called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this.”
How do you feel about this? Do you think the girl should be released? Did the justice system screw her over?
