For close to 50 years, Neil Diamond has entertained the world with his amazing singing voice, stage presence and love for song writing. He has inspired numerous artists to follow their dreams has even personally mentored some of America’s most loved musicians.
Sadly, Neil has recently cancelled the remainder of his world tour dates and revealed the heartbreaking reason behind this decision.
For over five decades Neil Diamond has been a staple of American music lovers. In that time he has released over 30 studio albums, 27 complication records, eight live albums and has traveled all over the world on tour.
His impact on the music industry is unmeasured and the love he shows towards his fans has never diminished. Indeed, even with a chaotic timetable and constant voyaging, Neil made a point to keep what’s imperative in life at the forefront. He’s a father of four stunning kids and wedded his manage, Katie McNeil, in 2012.
Neil told Billboard Magazine that nothing spurs his creativity more than being in love.
“There’s no better inspiration or motivation for work than being in love. It’s what you dream of as a creative person. I was able to complete this album – start it, write it and complete it — under the spell of love, and I think it shows somehow.”
Now 76 years old, Neil still manages to keep his passion for music burning. Sadly, due to a major medical setback he has to take time out from his true passion in life.
In a statement he released on his official website, Neil reveals that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, and it looks like his condition is deteriorating very fast. The disease has not forced him to quit music for good, but he has made the decision to stop performing live.
Here is Neil’s statement:
“It is with great reluctance and disappointment that I announce my retirement from concert touring. I have been so honored to bring my shows to the public for the past 50 years.
My sincerest apologies to everyone who purchased tickets and were planning to come to the upcoming shows.”
“I plan to remain active in writing, recording and other projects for a long time to come.
My thanks go out to my loyal and devoted audiences around the world. You will always have my appreciation for your support and encouragement. This ride has been ‘so good, so good, so good’ thanks to you.”
We would like to send our love to Neil and his family and wish them the very best in the future. Thankfully, Neil will still remain active in the music industry, but one cannot help but be saddened that he will never perform live again.
Neil will always be regarded as one of the best live performers we will perhaps ever see in our lifetime.
