4 early symptoms of ovarian cancer that every woman needs to know

Ovarian cancer is the most deadly cancer of the female reproductive system. Its high death rate is partly due to the lack of early detection and screening tests.

New research shows that there are signs and symptoms of early-stage ovarian cancer, as women, we must pay attention and know when something is a red flag.

The following symptoms are much more likely to occur in women with ovarian cancer than in women in general:

  • Bloating
  • Pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
  • Urinary symptoms (urgency or frequency)

Women who have these symptoms almost daily for more than a few weeks should see their doctor, or a gynaecologist. Ovarian cancer is the eighth most common cancer in U.S. women, with about 22,430 new cases and 15,280 deaths expected this year.

Women with ovarian cancer report that symptoms are persistent and represent a change from normal for their bodies. Studies have also highlighted these symptoms in the early stages of ovarian cancer.
