If you’re not a fan of rodents then imagine spotting one of these hanging from the ceiling. The following image has emerged in the Philippines, which appears to be a human-sized bat.
This thing looks terrifying and the bat is like the size of a human. The picture you can see is 100% real.
There’s no need to be afraid of this thing, because – whilst no tricks and editing has been applied to the picture – it is taken from such a perspective that it makes the bat look about five feet tall.
It was shared on Twitter by user @AlexJoestar622 who said: “Remember when I told y’all about the Philippines having human-sized bats? Yeah, this was what I was talking about.”
While this is one of the largest bat species in the world – calling it human-sized is inaccurate. They tend to hang upside down in the outbuildings of someone’s house.
This bat does actually have a wing-span of up to 5.5 feet but its height is probably only a foot, so it isn’t really that big.
However, the actual body of the flying fox, which looks massive, is probably only around one foot tall.
This picture is actually just a clever example of forced perspective, where you take a picture in such a way that makes something seem massive.
This was heavily used in The Lord of the Rings trilogy to make the hobbits appear small, when they are actually probably the same size as the other actors.
There’s a serious issue for the giant golden crowned flying fox as they are an endangered species due to deforestation and being poached for food.
They are completely herbivorous, eating mostly figs and occasionally chowing down on some leaves.
These bats are found in The Philippines, initially they were discovered in three subspecies, but since one has gone extinct.
