Following her announcement to leave talkshow The View, critics re rejoicing that seventy seven year old Joy Behar, plans to retire once her contract expires in 2022.
Behar has been with the show for 21 seasons since it premiered in 1997.
She has earned a place in the lives of millions of Americans who tune in for their daily dose of what’s going on in America.
“You can’t stay forever on a show,” Behar explained “I am graciously exiting stage left.”
“I’ve put in 16 1/2 years and felt the time was right. I want to explore other opportunities,” she said.
During an interview with journalist Ramin Setoodeh regarding The Explosive Inside Story of The View, Behar expressed her intentions to leave the show.
Many people has mixed opinions about Behar, because she has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way throughout the years – especially since President Trump was elected to office.
Behar excitedly spoke about her intentions to leave the show once her contract ended with ABC.
“I have a three-year contract,” Behar remarks. “But that doesn’t mean I can’t leave if I want to, because they can’t really do anything to me at this point. I don’t see myself staying for more [time]. That’s it!”
Behar also made it clear that she may not quit depending on how she feels.
“I could be wrong. If I’m as fabulous in  as I am now, I’ll think about. But the chances of that happening…” she said. “You know, time marches on. I’m not a kid.”
Variety wanted confirmation whether the interview was true or not, they confronting The View to determine if Behar’s retirement was imminent.
Variety wanted to establish if Behar was considering letting her contract expire in 2022.
A representative from the Variety show informed them Behar was not leaving and that the rumor was incorrect.
The spokesperson added: “Joy was asked what happens at the end of her contract and as she herself made clear in the interview if she’s ‘as fabulous in  as I am now,’ she will be in her seat at the table.”
Behar has been on the show longer than the original founder, Barbra Walters, who back in 2014, departed once she turned eighty-four.
ABC fired Behar in 2013, as a result of her being political. However, tshe was invited back for guest appearances until two years later when she was taken back on the show as a full-time host.
Joy published a book which she called The Great Gasbag: An A–Z Study Guide to Surviving Trump World.
On 13 March, Behar decided to take leave from The View because of the coronavirus. She was not prepared to commute for the show because “I’m in a higher risk group because of my age, but I’m perfectly healthy.”
Recently she began calling in from home from her house in the Hamptons for her appearances on the show.
